Hiking Trails Near UCSB!

Spring quarter means beautiful weather, planning your schedule around when you want to tan, and exploring Santa Barbara’s hiking trails! Here are five hiking trails that range in difficulty and proximity to UCSB, so whether you are looking for a casual afternoon excursion before section or interested in spending a weekend adventuring in nature, you are bound to find a trail that appeals to you!

Los Padres Tunnel Trail

For those looking for a weekend escape, Los Padres Tunnel Trail located in Los Padres National Forest is the perfect trail. Rated a hard trail, this 4.5 hour adventure is for nature-lovers, and the perfect way to spend any gorgeous Saturday afternoon!

Tangerine Falls Trail

Also located in Los Padres National Forest, the Tangerine Falls Trail is much shorter than the Los Padres Tunnel Trail, as the Tangerine Falls Trail is only 2.2 miles in length compared to the 7.5 mile Tunnel Trail. This trail is still considered hard, so this trail should definitely still be considered a challenge!

Gaviota Wind Caves Trail 

Another relatively short trail, the Gaviota Wind Caves Trail is 2.1 miles long and considered  moderate in difficulty. Located in the Gaviota State Park, this trail is about a 30 minute drive North of UCSB. With beautiful flowers and breathtaking views, Gaviota Wind Caves Trail is the perfect way to spend a sunny morning.

Arroyo Burro Beach Loop

Differing from the previously mentioned trails, the Arroyo Burro Beach Loop is considered easy in difficulty. Located in the Douglas Family Preserve, a 17 minute drive from campus, this 1.3 mile long trail will take about 30 minutes, making the hike perfect for anyone looking for a mid-day adventure in between classes.

Cold Spring Loop

Finishing off this list is a moderate hiking trail, the Cold Spring Loop Trail at Gould Park. A 2.1 mile hike, hiking this trail will take you about an hour and a half, and the views will be worth it!
